Clare qualified in July 2002 having completed a three year full time course at the Cumbria Alexander Training School in Kendal. She is a member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique.
Clare developed her interest in the Alexander Technique when she had to retire from her job as a Social Worker due to ME in 1994. Initially she found that the Alexander semi-supine practice was the only thing that gave her any relief from her symptoms. When she became well enough to have lessons in 1997 she found that the Technique helped her physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. She sees the Technique as an ongoing process and applies it to all areas of her life.
The Alexander Technique has been taught in England since 1904 when FM Alexander moved to London from Australia.
It is a skill for self development, teaching us to change long-standing habits that cause unnecessary tension and helping us to find ease in all areas of our life.
It can help with:
- Back neck and joint pain
- Muscle tension and stiffness
- Poor posture
- Breathing and vocal problems
- Anxiety and stress related conditions
- Improve performance and prevent injuries in music, drama and sport
- Enhance business and presentation skills
- Develop ease and elegance in movement
- Improve balance, stability and coordination
